“The Secret Door” Lyrics
I am going to start the morning out throwing out the day before. I am going to let the morning in – the whole thing, pouring in – and what is more: As more is more, I am the captain of this ship, of what it was, and what it is, of what it shackles or it leaves behind at shore. I am my executioner. My death is not the final word. My life is not some secret door.
And I am pushing through myself to something else. You have to detonate the bells when I say the word. I’ll light the chimes I know are on the other side. Suddenly, our surrounding symphony is heard! And what is more: We are the captains of this ship. Of what it was, and what it is, of what it stows and what it starves behind at shore. We’re our own executioners. Our deaths are not five-letter words. Our lives are not the night before.
And we are going to start them out on “3.” I will push you, you will push me. We are going through the door on “3.” I will push you if you push me. We are casting off from this shore into the sea – I will push you if you will push me.
